What ViPlay PDF Studio Can & Cannot Do
Clear, accurate documentation on local browser processing, text editing vs. redaction, signatures, forms, and encryption.
100% Local Processing & Privacy
Every operation in ViPlay PDF Studio — viewing, adding text and Hindi/Devanagari scripts, organizing pages, merging, splitting, compressing, encrypting, and redacting — runs directly in your browser using WebAssembly and JavaScript. Your PDF files are never uploaded to ViPlay servers or sent to any AI provider.
Recent work is autosaved in this browser's IndexedDB storage so you can recover unfinished edits if a tab closes. You can remove any recent item from the PDF Studio home screen at any time.
Adding Text vs. Replace Cover vs. Redaction
PDF is a fixed-layout page description format, not a word-processing document. Understanding how the three text-related tools differ ensures you pick the right one:
1. Add Text
Places new crisp, searchable vector text anywhere on a page, with full Unicode & Devanagari syllable shaping (`Noto Sans` & `Noto Sans Devanagari`).
2. Replace Text (Cover)
Places a solid background rectangle over existing text and writes new text on top. Useful for visual corrections, but underlying text stays in the file and paragraphs do not reflow.
3. Redact PDF
Permanently removes sensitive content. Marked pages are flattened into images with blacked-out regions and unreferenced PDF streams are garbage-collected.
Signatures & Forms
- Visual signatures: Draw, type, or upload a signature image onto any page. These are visual signatures, not cryptographic X.509/PKI digital certificates.
- Existing digital signatures: Modifying and saving a cryptographically signed PDF produces a new file in which prior digital signatures are no longer valid. PDF Studio warns you before export.
- AcroForms vs. XFA: Interactive AcroForm text fields, checkboxes, radio groups, and dropdowns can be filled, created, kept interactive, or flattened. Dynamic XFA forms are detected and reported clearly.
Encryption & Scanned PDFs
- AES-256 Protection: Protect PDF encrypts files with 256-bit AES using QPDF. Keep your open password safe — encrypted files cannot be recovered without it.
- Unlocking: Unlock PDF removes password protection when you supply the current password. It does not bypass unknown passwords.
- Scanned PDFs (no OCR): Scanned image-only PDFs can be viewed, annotated, signed, organized, compressed, and redacted. Text search will let you know when a PDF has no selectable text layer.
